The New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced today that it will invest $200,000 to install 15 new charging locations in New York City. The grant, awarded to CarCharging, an electric vehicle charging company, will enable the deployment of stations in high traffic areas around Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Presently, more than 89 charging locations have been installed in NYC. This new addition will create a new equilibrium in which there are 50% more charging stations than gas stations in Manhattan.
By deploying new infrastructure, city officials are hoping to solve the chicken and egg argument of what comes first-cars or charging stations. The chargers are here- you bring the cars.
